Foundation Design

Foundation design studies are performed upon developed sites, sites where minimal land development is required, or sites where land development and foundation construction will occur concurrently. These studies provide foundation design criteria for the structure(s) planned for a given site. Test borings are drilled within the structure footprint to depths which are determined by the proposed construction. Laboratory testing is performed to determine the swell/consolidation characteristics, composition, plasticity, strength, and corrosivity potential of the soils and/or bedrock. The field and laboratory work are evaluated to provide a report which generally includes:

  • Foundation Types
  • Design Parameters
  • Lateral Earth Pressures for Below Grade Walls
  • Interior Floor Construction Options and Recommendations
  • Foundation Drain Systems
  • Site Grading and Irrigation Recommendations

Reports for sites with commercial structures or where land development occurs concurrently with structure construction will also likely include;

  • Fill Placement Recommendations
  • Parking Lots Pavement Materials and Thicknesses
  • Retaining Wall Design Parameters
  • Other related geotechnical design and construction considerations
